This position involves leadership of the following Fred Hutch Cancer Center Shared Resources: Preclinical Imaging, Experimental Histopathology, Antibody Technology, and Immune Monitoring Laboratory at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch).  This position will provide oversight and direction for these cores and promote scientific and operational stewardship and advances. 

Responsibilities

Scope of Responsibilities:

The Sr. Director has leadership responsibilities for the Translational Shared Resources including oversight of programmatic elements for preclinical imaging services, the experimental histopathology shared resource, the antibody technology shared resource, and the immune monitoring shared resource.

This role is expected to foster strong relationships with Shared Resources stakeholders including Fred Hutch Leadership, faculty members and pertinent consortium or external partners to inform SR leadership, Research Administration and Executive decision making. 

The role requires the ability to analyze and interpret data from the above cores to drive complex decisions impacting a large portion of some or all Shared Resources.  The role is anticipated to act independently and/or within a team in identifying, describing, analyzing, and solving for opportunities to expand scientific support.  This position represents Translational Shared Resources and as such is anticipated to be arbiter in any discussion or issue pertaining to said cores.

This role reports to the AVP of Shared Resources.  Close collaboration and working with other Sr Directors/ Directors within Shared Resources and the larger Research Administration Department is expected. 

Essential Duties:

Leadership: Ensure that Translational Resources and Shared Resources have a clear strategy and direction for supporting Fred Hutch’s mission and vision. Serve as an advocate for Translational Shared Resources across Fred Hutch and ensure Core Directors receive needed support in administrative and as appropriate, scientific tasks. Build a culture of continuous improvement and learning for all members of Translational Resources to nurture career growth opportunities. Engage in succession planning to ensure a continuous high level of service and collaborative support to all users. 50%
Administrative: Participate actively in Shared Resources and Research Administration leadership teams and projects, including strategic design, goal development and implementation, change management, and coaching and mentoring. Develop or advise on Translational Core Budgets in collaboration with RA business operations to maintain the strong financial health of the core grouping. Develop and review standardized operations and efficiencies for all cores, including space, technology, and operational needs, and applicable regulatory compliance. 30%
Research and Technology support: Strengthen Shared Resource cores through collaboration with customers, education and training events, introduction of new technologies, equipment or processes, and other activities. Engage with faculty advisory committees and end users to develop and maintain strategic goals for the Core groups.  Develop strategies to respond to changes in science and technology and as appropriate maintain awareness and responsiveness to external competition  15%
Regulatory and Compliance Support: This role requires familiarity with applicable federal, state and local regulations, guidelines and policies in the oversight of the Immune Monitoring Shared Resource and Preclinical Imaging, including PHS, FDA and other entities.  5%
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

Master's or higher-level degree (Field of Education: Scientific (Physical, Biological/biomedical) or Medical (MD, DVM, etc)).
5 years in the management of a Shared Resource Core.
Understanding of operations within a Shared Resource core including financial, personnel, strategic, and project management
Possess recognized leadership skills such as personnel and team development, effective communication, and strategic goal setting
Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with others at all levels in a positive and collegial manner.   

Preferred:

7-10 years management of a Shared Resource Core in an NCI-Designated Cancer Center.
MBA or advanced academic degree in comparative medicine, or other related discipline

The annual base salary range for this position is from $167,767 to $279,611 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for relocation assistance and sign-on bonus.
