Patient research advocate Anne Marie Mercurio will present the opening keynote at 12:00 pm central time on Monday, June 24, during the 16th Annual AACI Clinical Research Innovation (CRI) Meeting in Rosemont, IL.

Mercurio was successfully treated for ER+/HER2- invasive lobular breast cancer in 2006-2007 and served as her late mother’s primary caregiver, first upon her diagnosis with a second primary breast cancer in 2007, and then with metastatic disease from 2013 through her death in 2020. In addition to co-chairing the Patient Advocate Committee at SWOG Cancer Research Network and chairing the Patient Insights Board at Medidata, she serves on advisory boards at several cancer centers.

Mercurio empowers patients to be partners with their physicians and is passionate about patient-centered care. She believes there is tremendous value in engaging patients early and often throughout the development of clinical trials, from initial concept through the dissemination of findings. During the keynote, she will share her experiences and her thoughts on improving the patient experience through the use of digital tools.
