AACI Returns to Capitol Hill to Advocate for Cancer Research Funding

Registration is now open for AACI's joint Hill Day with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), which will take place in person in Washington, DC, on Thursday, May 18. Your participation in Hill Day is critical to sharing our message with our legislators in Washington: that stable, predictable funds are needed to advance cancer research and care at our nation’s cancer centers.

Soapbox, a firm that specializes in coordinating advocacy days, will request and schedule meetings on your behalf with your legislators, making the day stress-free for all participants. With over 70 new legislators in Washington, there is no better time to join us for Hill Day.

AACI is encouraging each cancer center to send at least one representative to Washington to advocate on your center’s behalf. If you are unable to attend, a scientist, administrator, public relations staffer, government relations representative, or patient advocate who has benefited from care at your cancer center would be a great representative for your institution.

AACI has reserved a room block at the Grand Hyatt Washington. Attendees are encouraged to reserve a hotel room at the time of registration.

Cancer Research Ally Award & Hill Day Speakers

On the evening of Wednesday, May 17, a reception will be held on Capitol Hill. During the reception AACI will present the Cancer Research Ally Award to a Republican and Democrat member of Congress. Nominations are currently being accepted for the award.

AACI is also seeking recommendations of speakers, including patients and emerging researchers, for the reception and Hill Day breakfast. We are particularly interested in highlighting women and people of color and strongly encourage you to consider diversity, equity, and inclusion when submitting your speaker recommendations.

Cancer Research Ally Award recipients and Hill Day speakers offer unique perspectives on the value of funding for the National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute, while promoting the important work at AACI cancer centers.

Please contact AACI Government Relations Manager Jaren Love or 814-932-0070 with any questions or recommendations for awardees and speakers.
