The Director of Marketing & Communications reports to the Chief of Staff. Under limited supervision, the Director of Marketing & Communications develops marketing strategies for all key areas in alignment with the system and is responsible for campaign strategy and development, presence on third-party websites, digital and social media content development and engagement, lead generation and conversion via search engine marketing, CRM and digital engagement. Project tracking, community engagement support, end-to-end campaign planning/execution for strategic marketing initiatives which support brand elevation, business growth and stakeholder engagement for MUSC Hollings Cancer Center are all essential areas of knowledge and expertise.Job Description
Direct the creation, implementation and measurement of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategic plan to enhance Hollings’ image and position within the marketplace, cancer industry, media and the general public
Successfully work within a complex matrixed environment and with stakeholders from throughout Hollings and the greater MUSC Enterprise system in a collaborative and collegial manner to meet the marketing and communication needs of the center.
Demonstrate strong analytical, marketing and communication skills, and excellence in both prioritization and time management
Oversee effective and efficient annual budget management for the Hollings Marketing/Communication Division
Prepare presentations, scripting and media coaching for the cancer center director and senior leadership to communicate information effectively to cancer center faculty and staff, institutional leadership, lay public, and media
Collaborate with key leadership in the development of strategic plan and aims set to maintain the center’s NCI designated status, ensuring consistency in messaging in internal and external channels to support center and its mission
Provide leadership in the planning, development and execution of marketing and communication strategies to elevate Hollings sub-brand and work with MUSC and stakeholders to craft a co-branding strategy with affiliates in Hollings cancer network
Serve as liaison to MUSC legislative team and advocate for key initiatives on state and federal levels
Plan, execute and measure marketing and communication strategies to support high-profile programs and key initiatives that benefit the cancer center
Strategic Marketing, Communications 35%
Execute long term communications and marketing strategies designed to promote the cancer center’s mission and brand positioning to include advocacy, internally and externally
Set measurable goals, track trends and boost reputational awareness, updating communications and marketing dashboard to monitor marketing benchmarks and to capture web, media and social media analytics
Ensure adherence to brand standards and oversee quality of campaigns and assets supporting the sub-brand of Hollings and its cancer network
Support cancer center members and affiliates and promote their participation at national and international industry conferences as well as service in national leadership roles
Provide oversight of editorial and social media calendars in execution of marketing and communication strategies
Collaboratively work with MUSC, MUSC PAMR, development, research, SCTR and MUSC Health stakeholders to support cancer center (locally, regionally, and nationally).
Promote news dissemination to leading cancer industry publications and to internal and external research channels, including EurekAlert
Handle crisis communications for the center in conjunction with PAMR
Direct the development, accuracy and consistency of editorial content, promotional campaigns, and collateral (print, social media, video boards, videography, website, e-newsletters, etc.), including the Hollings Horizons magazine
Oversee website content and digital campaigns to ensure best practices, increase SEO/SEM and track performance
Collaborate with CTO, SCTR and research provost office to facilitate dissemination of research findings and promote clinical trials
Provide marketing/communication consults for special center initiatives and serve as communications liaison to COE team to reach special populations as designated by the director and Hollings senior leadership
Support PAMR in the timely reply to media requests and to cultivate subject matter experts
Team Management 30%
Manage a professional staff comprised of individuals in various fields of strategic marketing and communications
Recruit new employees, train, set clear expectations, and provide timely feedback.
Assume accountability for decisions and actions of team members, ensuring quality control of all information released in multimedia and editorial projects
Provide clear direction, support and expectations to team members. Support continued professional development and the obtainment of new skills and knowledge that will benefit the cancer center.
Establish a culture of excellence with a highly collaborative team working toward a common organizational vision where creative, strategic thinking is fostered and new approaches to solving problems is encouraged.
Address any employee relations or performance issues in a timely and proactive manner. Lead and guide staff in a supportive and positive manner, demonstrating the upmost professionalism
Oversee retention of staff in a manner that promotes equity and inclusion and builds team morale and a commitment to the mission of the cancer center
Direct freelance writers and other contracted employees for the execution of Hollings’ strategic plan
