Opportunity: The Assistant Director of Finance is the recognized finance partner of the Director and the Associate Director of Administration and Finance (ADAF) of the CU Cancer Center. The Assistant Director will provide high quality, creative, forward-thinking leadership and solutions oriented financial advice and counsel at the strategic, policy, and operational levels. This position is responsible for developing and implementing the overall operational budget for the Center and to support the implementation of the overall vision and mission of the Center.  In addition, the Assistant Director will collaborate closely with management at the University, School, CU Medicine and hospitals (UCH and CHCO) to ensure business standards and objectives are met.  This position is responsible for the oversight of the fiscal management of the Center and is accountable for the appropriate stewardship of those funds. The Assistant Director of Finance is a member of the Center’s executive leadership team and plays a key role in the financial, operational and strategic leadership of the organization.  The individual has center fiduciary responsibilities and is accountable for meeting standards for compliance with applicable School, University and Hospital policies, procedures, laws, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business/public administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution
Minimum of five years professional level financial management experience within a complex health care setting or biomedical research setting, preferably in an academic medical center similar to Anschutz Medical Campus
Broad and diversified professional management experience preferably in an academic medical center or government environment
Minimum three years personnel management with at least 3 direct reports

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

An exceptional, broad-based general management experience with a solid background in finance
A high degree of technical skills in fiscal management, knowledge of accounting and business practices, including knowledge and use of accounting software packages
Ability to manage funds effectively from a variety of sources and on a variety of fiscal cycles
Solid understanding of budget development and management; billing operations, reimbursements, financial contracts and consulting agreements
A demonstrated ability to assemble and analyze information for reports and special projects
Strong analytical skills
An understanding of productivity measures used within academic settings
Effective presentation and communication skills, both oral and written
A high level of interpersonal skills
The ability to develop and maintain strong relations with Center leadership, faculty, management and staff and leadership in other organizational units based on mutual trust and respect
A strong commitment to the team approach and be able to mentor direct reports
An ability to communicate information effectively, motivate project teams and ensure successful completion of Center goals
A proven ability to manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines, manage time lines and achieve milestones
Be approachable, well balanced, and act as a team leader and a team builder for Center staff
Demonstrate professionalism, a strong work ethic, a commitment to high standards, integrity, stability, a discriminating judgment and accountability
