The University of Arizona Health Sciences seeks nominations and applications for an outstanding academic, visionary leader to direct the University of Arizona Cancer Center. The University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS) is seeking a dynamic and respected clinician and/or scientist who will work collaboratively with the University’s senior leadership, its academic medical center partner, Banner University Medicine, and community partners in Tucson, Phoenix, and the state more broadly to lead the Cancer Center and build upon the extant strengths and longstanding reputation for world class cancer care and innovative research
The UA Cancer Center is one of 51 NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country, and the only one in the state of Arizona. With primary locations in Tucson and more than a dozen research and education offices in Phoenix and throughout the state, the UA Cancer Center is uniquely positioned to impact innovative cancer care and research. The UA Cancer Center is a leader in research on women’s and men’s cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, lymphoma and skin cancers and is home to one of the largest Cancer Prevention and Control Programs among the nation’s comprehensive cancer centers, with leading prevention research in breast, colon, lung, prostate and skin cancers. The Cancer Center’s 81 research labs and more than 330 nationally and internationally renowned physician and scientist members work to bring the power of research to cancer prevention and treatment through a direct link between the latest research discoveries and patient care.
The Director will serve as Principal Investigator of the NCI core grant, and will be expected to continue the strong tradition of research excellence within the Center while expanding basic, population health, clinical, and translational research in collaboration with UAHS departmental leadership and the clinical affiliates. It is expected that the Director will be a nationally recognized clinician and/or scientist with a proven track record of NCI funded research and direct experience in the administration of an NCI designated Cancer Center.
