Founding Director of Research in Cancer Care Delivery Transformation
The Opportunity:
Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, seeks an exceptional Associate or Full Professor to serve as Founding Director of Research in Cancer Care Delivery Transformation at its new Vineyard Campus. This senior academic leader will build and direct a new research program focused on redesigning cancer care delivery through health services research, implementation science, digital health, and AI-enabled innovation, with a strong emphasis on improving access and outcomes for rural, frontier, and underserved populations.
The Director will develop a federally funded research portfolio; collaborate closely with HCI and University of Utah clinical, research, and health system leaders; and serve as Research Director for HCI’s Innovative Medical Practices Advancing Care Transformation (IMPACT) Center. Vineyard represents HCI’s first major expansion beyond Salt Lake City and is designed as a hub for innovation in cancer care, data science, and clinical trials, supported by strong academic, community, and technology partnerships.
About the Role:
We seek an innovative, collaborative leader with a demonstrated record of excellence in health services research, implementation science, digital health innovation, or clinical and translational research. The successful candidate will:
Build and lead a new Cancer Care Transformation research program with dedicated resources for faculty recruitment and growth
Develop and sustain a competitive, federally funded grant portfolio as principal investigator and collaborator
Partner with HCI clinical and research leaders, University of Utah departments, and community organizations to design scalable, data-driven care solutions
Lead efforts to overcome barriers to cancer care delivery, with a focus on rural, frontier, and underserved populations
Advance research and implementation in telehealth, value-based care, and AI-enabled prevention, early detection, and treatment
Serve as Research Director of the IMPACT Center and contribute to institute-wide strategy
Report to the Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Director of the IMPACT Center
HCI Vineyard Campus Supported by the State of Utah and extraordinary philanthropy, the HCI Vineyard Campus will expand access to cancer care in central and southern Utah while enabling new collaborations with Utah Valley University (UVU), Brigham Young University (BYU), and regional technology and AI partners within the Silicon Slopes ecosystem. The campus will implement HCI’s leading clinical trial portfolio and house national leaders in cancer research.
