Interdisciplinary Oncology, Multiple Faculty Positions

LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center

January 25, 2024
The LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center, located in New Orleans, LA, is seeking five faculty members at all academic levels who are committed to excellence in research that addresses biology and treatment of cancers that disproportionately burden the residents of Louisiana.

Louisiana is at the heart of the US cancer burden with high incidence and mortality from most cancers, and faces significant challenges related to cancer care and health equity and disparities. However, for qualified, motivated, and innovative applicants, these challenges afford exceptional basic science and clinical translational opportunities directed toward NIH-designated priority areas. The Cancer Center is an emerging cancer center actively seeking NCI designation in cooperation with our partners in the Louisiana Cancer Research Center (LCRC). Leveraging significant support from the State of Louisiana, Louisiana State University (LSU), our hospital partner, LCMC Health, the LCRC, and donors, we have a dynamic strategic plan that will achieve that goal.

The Cancer Center has existing strengths in cancers of genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and hepatobiliary systems, and female reproductive tract, cancer biology, viral oncology, inflammation, immunology, obesity, and cancer metabolism. It combines clinical expertise, an exceptional clinical trials network, and a growing cadre of basic scientists to define underlying molecular mechanisms in cancer and derive novel interventions that improve prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of cancer for our diverse populations.

We are seeking faculty candidates with demonstrated expertise in (but not limited to) cancer-relevant molecular and cellular biology, genomics, epigenetics, infectious etiologies, tumor immunology, obesity, and cancer therapy development. Investigators with expertise in bioinformatics and biostatistics are strongly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will hold an appointment in the most appropriate basic science and/or clinical department or school within LSU Health New Orleans.

Qualified scientists will be offered competitive start-up funds commensurate with expertise and productivity. Team recruitment will be considered for well-established investigators. Closely mentored research/career development programs are provided for ‘early-stage’ investigators and visa sponsorship can be available, if needed. Selected applicants will play a foundational role in defining the cancer research strategies, priorities and implementation approaches within the state and the region directed toward NCI designation.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or both, and have an exceptional track record of accomplishment.

Candidates should submit a CV, short narrative of research interests and plans (two page maximum included with cover letter document), and three references as part of the application process to posting:  https://lsuhsc.peopleadmin.com/postings/13810 on the LSUHSC website.
