Deputy Director for Administration

UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center

March 5, 2024
The Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCCC) at the University of California San Diego is embarking on a new trajectory to leverage its significant research and clinical strength, which is embedded in an environment that values innovation and collaboration. We intend to re-envision how we prevent, detect, and treat cancer to improve the lives of cancer patients and the communities we serve. With a robust commitment from UCSD executive leadership, attractive resources across the MCCC/UCSD, an exciting San Diego biotech environment, and a new Cancer Center Director leading a dynamic new senior leadership team, we seek an exceptional Deputy Director for Administration to fill a key leadership role as we launch the next era of impact by the Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The UC San Diego Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCCC) is one of 56 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. As a consortium cancer center, it is part of a collaborative partnership between UCSD: encompassing 28 departments, 6 schools (School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health, Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Biological Sciences & the School of Physical Sciences), UCSD Health oncology hospitals and clinics; San Diego State University, and the La Jolla Institute of Immunology. The UCSD MCCC ranks among the top cancer centers in the nation, conducting the continuum of high-impact cancer research, providing advanced patient care, training and education and serving the community through extensive outreach and education programs.

The UCSD Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCCC) Deputy Director of Administration (DDA) is the senior administrative executive who oversees all research operations, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG). This position will partner closely with the newly appointed (as of April 1), MCCC Director, Dr. Diane Simeone, to envision, deploy, and evaluate the strategic plan for the MCCC. This position also partners with Dr. Simeone and the MCCC senior leadership team, as well as the UCSD Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences and Health System leaders to advance the MCCC to a position of academic and clinical eminence by fostering exceptional cancer research, patient care, education and training, community outreach and engagement. The ideal candidate is a creative and dynamic leader with the ability to inspire, lead, collaborate, and work effectively in a complex academic health system. The DDA is responsible for strategic planning and evaluation, research administration, personnel management, budgeting and financial operations, space and shared resources management, training and education, community outreach and engagement, in alignment with the requirements of an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
