The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Cancer Center & Research Institute (CCRI) seeks highly qualified candidates for the combined position of Associate Director of Cancer Clinical Affairs / Division Director of Medical Oncology. This is a key executive leadership position for the CCRI responsible for clinical strategic planning and operations leading to successful growth and enhancement of the CCRI clinical mission of the Institute while maintaining alignment with the research mission.  

In this role, the Associate Director (AD) will be responsible for providing guidance to the CCRI Director for all ambulatory and inpatient cancer clinical programs in all clinical sites including coordinated multidisciplinary clinics. The position aids in the development and implementation of strategic plans to advance cancer care to that of an NCI designated cancer center; provides financial and analytical support to the clinical affairs; and partners with departments and divisions across UMMC on strategic initiatives such as program planning, faculty recruitment and resource utilization.  Additionally, providing clinical direction in support of all CCRI clinical trial and translational research efforts will be needed for planning of submission of a Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).  For Division Director of Medical Oncology, the candidate will reside within the Department of Medicine at UMMC and report to its Chair.  Duties include oversight and clinical direction of oncology and hematology cancer providers, direction on disease site programmatic initiatives, oncology division research and scholarly activity, as well as oversight over the program director of medical oncology fellowship. 

We are particularly interested in candidates who have outstanding record of innovation and accomplishments in building robust scholarly cancer clinical programs.  Exceptional physician/physician-scientists with a strong clinical emphasis with demonstrated partnerships with clinical trial and translational development and implementation are encouraged to apply. The major criteria for appointment for faculty shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Faculty rank and the department will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful applicant should have a MD or MD/PhD and be board certified in an oncological subspecialty. Successful candidates will be expected to be clinically active, maintain a robust clinical research portfolio, and demonstrate a deep interest in building CCRI initiatives to achieve the goal of comprehensive designation from the National Cancer Institute (NCI).  The Associate Director (AD) will provide overall leadership of CCRI's cancer clinical enterprise in alignment with the expectations established by the NCI, and help train the next generation of clinical investigators. The AD will work closely with faculty and administrative leaders in the CCRI and within the UMMC Cancer Service Line.  The AD will also represent and advocate for the interests and needs of cancer clinical programs at the highest levels leadership within UMMC, including incorporating strategies to ensure enrollment of minority populations in our catchment area onto clinical trials.
