AACI and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) will co-host the 2019 Hill Day in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, April 30. AACI is encouraging its U.S. members to send at least one representative to Washington to advocate on your center’s behalf. All faculty and staff of AACI cancer centers are invited to attend.

Your participation in Hill Day is critical to sharing our message with our legislators in Washington: that stable, predictable funds are needed to advance cancer research and care at our nation’s cancer centers.

For the first time, AACI will offer scholarships to patient advocates to help defray the costs of airfare, lodging, meals, or ground transportation. The Hill Day Scholarship Program was established to support the participation of patient advocates at Hill Day, giving them an opportunity to share their impactful stories with legislators.

Cancer centers may nominate one patient advocate to receive a $500 scholarship. Recipients will be selected by AACI’s Government Relations Steering Committee. To learn more about the scholarship program and nominate a patient advocate, please complete our
application form by Friday, March 1.

Soapbox, a firm which specializes in coordinating advocacy days, will request and schedule meetings on your behalf with your legislators, making the day stress-free for all participants. For your convenience, a room block has been reserved at the Liaison Capitol Hill, located within walking distance of the House and Senate office buildings.

With over 100 new legislators in Washington, there is no better time to join us for Hill Day.

If you have any questions, please contact AACI Government Relations Manager Jaren Love at 412-647-2076.
