AACI Expands Public Policy Resource Library to Track Federal Legislation

AACI recently launched a federal legislation tracking tool for its Public Policy Resource Library (PPRL). The legislation tracker will provide updates on the status of cancer-related bills and will track efforts by AACI and likeminded organizations to advance the legislation. The tracker will specifically highlight federal legislation that has been endorsed by AACI’s Board of Directors.

The tracker was built in collaboration with undergraduate information systems students at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh. The CMU team worked closely with AACI staff and web developers to integrate the tracker with the PPRL and ensure ease of use for government relations professionals at AACI cancer centers. The tracker can be accessed on desktop and mobile devices.

AACI staff will regularly update the tracker with news, co-sponsorship numbers, and committee activity related to relevant bills. We also encourage members to share status updates on these bills.

AACI’s PPRL and legislation tracker enable cancer centers and others in the cancer advocacy community to share resources—including talking points and legislation enacted at the state and federal level—to foster collaboration, promote cancer prevention, and spur the development of policies that will improve the lives of Americans through lowered cancer incidence and mortality.

The PPRL was the presidential initiative of AACI Immediate Past President Roy A. Jensen, MD, director of The University of Kansas Cancer Center. The concept was inspired by the successful advocacy efforts of Dr. Jensen, his colleagues at KU Cancer Center, and other partners as they work to promote sound public health policy.
