Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.
Fred Hutch Cancer Center is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) to lead and oversee the integration of information technology into the clinical and medical domains. Reporting directly to the CIO with a dotted line to the CMO, the CMIO will work at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and clinical operations to drive the adoption and effective use of health IT solutions that improve patient care, enhance clinical workflows, and support the research mission of Fred Hutch.
The CMIO will collaborate with clinicians, researchers, IT teams, and administrative leaders to define, implement, and optimize technology strategies that enable innovation and enhance the quality, efficiency, and safety of care delivery. This role is crucial in ensuring that the clinical and research teams have the tools they need to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while advancing medical research and improving operational effectiveness.
Responsibilities
Clinical Informatics Strategy and Leadership
· Lead the development and implementation of the strategic vision for medical informatics, ensuring alignment with Fred Hutch’s overall clinical, research, and organizational goals.
· Advocate for the use of health IT solutions to support clinical and research workflows, improve patient care, and enhance operational efficiency.
· Guide the digital transformation of clinical and research environments, ensuring that the clinical informatics strategy is forward-looking and leverages emerging technologies.
Collaboration with Clinical and Research Leadership
· Work closely with clinical leaders, medical staff, and research teams to ensure that clinical informatics initiatives are aligned with the needs of providers and researchers.
· Act as a liaison between IT and clinical departments, translating clinical requirements into technology solutions and helping the IT department understand the operational challenges clinicians face.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Medical degree (MD or equivalent) and 10 years practicing medicine
· Relevant experience in medical informatics, health informatics, or a related field is required.
· Minimum of three years of experience in a leadership or senior healthcare informatics role, with a focus on Epic and other clinical applications.
· Experience leading the implementation or optimization, and management of Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and clinical IT solutions.
· Experience in leading large-scale clinical IT and health informatics projects, preferably in academic medical centers or research environments.
· Familiarity with healthcare regulations and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, FDA regulations).
· A strong understanding of clinical workflows, decision support tools, data integration, and analytics in a healthcare environment.
· Previous experience working with clinical and research teams to translate clinical needs into technological solutions.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $315,162 to $554,216, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
