Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah is seeking an experienced research development professional to join our team as Associate Director of Research Development. Huntsman Cancer Institute is committed to cancer prevention, care, and survivorship for all communities within the area we serve – which includes Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming – with impact worldwide.
Responsibilities:
Aid teams of faculty researchers in the development and management of multi-project grant proposals and other grants of institutional importance to HCI . Participate as a member of programmatic teams, acting, as needed, as: shepherd/scheduler/stage manager/coach/editor/contributor.
Independently manage development of multi-project grant applications.
Provide scientific writing and editorial review of grants and other narratives with the goal to produce top-quality final products that meet or exceed the guidelines and objectives of funding agencies.
Support writing of honorary award nominations for HCI faculty.
Address writing/editorial/analysis needs of the HCI Comprehensive Cancer Center Executive Director’s office and HCI , as assigned.
Develop and maintain an awareness of HCI strategic goals and accomplishments through participation at relevant meetings, seminars, retreats, and strategic planning events. Participate in strategic planning activities, as assigned.
Potential for supervisory role.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree + two years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree + six years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
Preferences
PhD in science or related/equivalent area; five years of progressively more responsible dedicated management and/or writing/editorial experience; effective leadership, human relations, and communications skills.
Strong understanding of scientific funding mechanisms ( NIH , DoD, Foundations) and grant application processes.
Relevant prior experience in a university and/or NCI -designated Cancer Center setting.
Project management experience.
Expertise with office and writing software (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Co-Pilot, Adobe Acrobat, EndNote).
Basic graphics skills (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign).
