The Assistant Director of Finance at NYU Langone Health is responsible for supervising daily financial and strategic tasks to enhance financial performance, specifically for the Perlmutter Cancer Center (PCC) non-clinical financial portfolio. This includes oversight of financial management, accounting, funds flow, compliance, and budgeting for the PCC, with an emphasis on post-award grants management. Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management: Supervise non-clinical financial performance of the PCC, providing oversight to research and academic financial components.
Staff Supervision: Manage financial staff, including managers and analysts, as applicable.
Budgeting: Develop and monitor PCC’s annual operating and capital budgets, with quarterly performance reports for leadership.
Internal Controls: Implement and oversee internal controls to ensure high fiduciary compliance within the Center.
Infrastructure Development: Collaborate with leadership to enhance infrastructure with human resources and IT systems, enabling efficient budgetary and financial data flow and real-time financial health analysis.
Strategic Analysis: Work with central and departmental leadership to design and communicate high-level administrative and budgetary analyses, including creating business plans for new programs, services, and recruits.
Variance Reports: Oversee monthly analyses and variance reports for all accounts, covering grants and philanthropy, and provide regular financial reporting and analyses to PCC principal investigators and program leaders.
Grant Management: Monitor expenditures related to grants and contracts and prepare necessary financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulations and adherence to institutional deadlines.
Recruitment Planning: Manage financial operations for research staff and faculty recruitment and coordinate the financial onboarding process, ensuring proper account and fund setup.
Policy Communication: Ensure faculty and staff are informed of relevant policies and procedures and their financial impact.
Resource Management: Collaborate with executive leadership to manage and align financial needs with available resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: 8 years in managing budgets, business development, and financial operations within complex academic medical centers. Experience in clinical and research billing, grants management, and clinical trial business.
Skills: Firm understanding of basic accounting principles, variance analysis, multi-tasking across deliverables, and problem-solving.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field; MBA preferred but not required.
Additional Skills: Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, be a quick learner, and adapt to changing responsibilities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: MBA is preferred but not mandatory.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring the PCC’s financial operations are effective and comply with external and internal standards, providing necessary insights and analyses to aid leadership in informed decision-making.
