Reporting to the associate director for Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) Clinical Research Administration, the Manager, SCC Clinical Research Office, Training Development, works under limited supervision to implement, oversee, and evaluate the programmatic activities associated with all training and internal/external development associated with clinical research in the SCCC Clinical Research Office (CRO).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.     Oversees education and training for the CRO including onboarding, orientation, annual training events, and supplemental training as required for all CRO research personnel and other staff as applicable.

2.     Manages and oversees organizational and operational activities of Investigator Initiated Trial (IIT) Management team tasked with providing development, project management, regulatory and data management, as well as clinical monitoring support for the IITs coordinated by the Clinical Research Office of the SCCC.  This includes overseeing a team responsible for associated activities from trial startup through trial closeout.

3.     Develops performance standards and expectations for IIT team and periodically assesses the attainment of those standards.  Identifies and assists in resolution of problem areas between staff, physicians and other departments. 

4.     Maintains peer-level working relationships with faculty and academic departments across UTSW to oversee the conduct of IIT oncology clinical trials.

5.     Responsible for affiliate site management as the UTSW Simmons Cancer Center Affiliate Network expands to include oncology clinical trials efforts.  This may include oversight of internal audit activities as needed.

6.     Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in science, social science, healthcare administration, or a related field, and at least seven (7) years of experience with clinical trials, including at least three (3) years of in a management role. Experience with oncology clinical trials required.  Master’s degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
