Founded in 1976, the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is one of just 57 NCI-Designed Comprehensive Cancer Centers, a distinction that places it among the celebrated top tier of cancer centers across the country. Entering an exciting new era of strategic growth and active transformation under the helm of Dan Theodorescu, MD, PhD, the UACC is poised for unparalleled success across all of its missions. Among its highest priorities is the recruitment of an inaugural Director, Ginny L. Clements Breast Cancer Research Institute (GLCBCRI) and a national search is underway.
The successful candidate will meet the requirements of either a career track or tenure track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.
The new Director will be a renowned scientist and accomplished leader in their field, one with a strong record of extramural funding, impactful publications, and a profound passion for advancing the scientific study of breast cancer, its treatment, cure, and prevention, as well as providing superb clinical oncology care. The successful candidate will have experience building research innovations and possess the entrepreneurial spirit to lead the growth of the newly founded Ginny L. Clements Breast Cancer Research Institute. They will have the ability to bring together researchers, from varying backgrounds across the University of Arizona and beyond, to build an internationally recognized translational breast cancer research enterprise that identifies novel discoveries in the lab through collaborations locally, nationally and internationally, that leads to new breast cancer treatments.

Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborate with UACC senior leadership to create a clear vision for the GLCBCRI, one that inspires faculty engagement, produces growth and innovation, and further elevates the stature of the GLCBCRI and UACC nationally and internationally.
Grow and expand breast cancer research collaborations within GLCBCRI through the development of current faculty, recruitment of high caliber NIH-funded faculty, and the enrichment of new and stronger partnerships within UACC and across UA to help grow and sustain extramural funding and national impact.
Foster innovation in the next generation of cutting-edge breast cancer discoveries, whether in translation of new bench discoveries, application of new approaches and technologies in prevention strategies, treatment, or diagnostic products, or in the delivery of cancer care in a large complex network.
Expand GLCBCRI’s research mission, including basic, clinical, and translational discoveries, and further develop the population science program, with a goal of achieving comprehensive status as well as ensuring a robust clinical trials program across the enterprise.
Identify opportunities to attract and engage constituents to inspire philanthropic support.
Minimum Qualifications
MD, or MD/PhD
Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Associate or Professor level at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Clinically active candidates must be board certified and eligible for licensure in the state of Arizona.
