The Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC), one of the nation’s 57 NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, seeks a visionary leader to serve as its next Director. This is a unique opportunity to lead a nationally recognized cancer center that integrates cutting-edge research, education, and compassionate clinical care across Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth Health.
Founded in 1972 and recently renewed for its NCI designation, DCC is a hub of innovation and collaboration. With over 160 faculty, 260 active research projects, and more than $68 million in annual research funding, DCC is a leader in cancer prevention, precision oncology, immunotherapy, and population health. The Center manages over 450 clinical trials and serves a diverse, primarily rural population across New Hampshire and Vermont.
The Director will report jointly to the Dean of the Geisel School of Medicine and the CEO of Dartmouth Health. They will also serve as Associate Dean for Cancer Programs at Geisel and lead Dartmouth Health’s integrated Oncology Service Line. The Director will oversee strategic planning, faculty recruitment, research development, clinical integration, and philanthropic advancement. They will also serve as Principal Investigator for the NCI P30 Cancer Center Support Grant.
The ideal candidate is an internationally recognized physician-scientist or scientist (M.D., D.O., Ph.D., or equivalent) with a distinguished record in cancer research, education, and clinical leadership. They will bring a deep understanding of translational science, a commitment to health equity, and a passion for mentoring the next generation of oncology leaders. Experience managing complex academic or healthcare organizations and leading successful NCI-designated programs is strongly preferred.
DCC is deeply embedded in the Dartmouth community and benefits from strong philanthropic support, including the Byrne Family Cancer Research Institute and the Prouty, northern New England’s largest cancer fundraising event. The next Director will have the opportunity to build on this momentum and shape the future of cancer care and discovery in the region and beyond.
