The AACI Leadership Diversity and Development Workshop is a component of the Leadership Diversity and Development Initiative (LDDI), the presidential initiative of
Caryn Lerman, PhD, director of USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The first workshop was hosted by AACI in November 2022. Nearly 100 participants from 78 AACI cancer centers attended the inaugural event. The attendees represented a diverse group of cancer center leaders as well as emerging leaders nominated by their centers.
The program featured sessions on leading with authenticity; navigating the path to cancer center leadership; identifying and mentoring emerging cancer center leaders; becoming a more influential communicator; and aligning cancer center goals with department chairs, deans, and health system CEOs.
In a report published in the
Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI) in July 2022 and shared with LDDI workshop participants, Dr. Lerman and other cancer center leaders outlined best practices for building a diverse leadership pipeline.
