Tulane University School of Medicine (Tulane SOM) invites applications and nominations for the position of Section Chief of Hematology & Medical Oncology and Deputy Director of the Tulane Cancer Center.
Tulane SOM has a strong record of achievement in research, patient care, and teaching. The Section of Hematology & Medical Oncology is integral to the growth of the Deming Department of Medicine and the Tulane SOM. The Section has 15 clinical and research faculty with expertise in hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation. The fellowship program, currently with nine fellows, offers diverse training at three affiliated hospitals, Tulane Medical Center, University Medical Center, and the VA Medical Center in New Orleans.
The Section Chief/Deputy Director is responsible for the overall administrative, academic, and clinical operations of the division. The Section is poised for rapid growth and seeks an innovative and visionary leader who will work closely with the Chair of the Department of Medicine and the leadership of the Tulane SOM. As Tulane SOM and its affiliated hospitals constitute a major academic medical network in Louisiana, the Section Chief/Deputy Director will serve as a key liaison with hematologist-oncologists throughout the state.
QUALIFICATIONS: Tulane SOM seeks an accomplished academician and clinician with an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. from an accredited medical school, current board certification in hematology or medical oncology, eligible for licensure in Louisiana, and appropriate academic qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Candidates must have experience in developing and leading clinical programs, a strong program in clinical or laboratory-based research, a record of innovative and effective administrative experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse academic environment.
