Chair, Department of Surgical Oncology

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center

December 6, 2023
Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (RPCCC), America's first cancer center and New York State’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center outside of the New York City Metropolitan area, is recruiting for the Chair of the Department of Surgical Oncology. The department is comprised of 17 surgeons representing all aspects of surgical oncology; upper GI, HPB, colorectal, melanoma, sarcoma, endocrine, breast, and regional therapies such as HIPEC. Roswell Park is on the cutting edge of robotic surgery for GI and HPB malignancies, including one of the largest series of robotic esophagectomy. Several of the faculty members are also surgeon-scientists with dedicated basic science laboratories. The department has a long-standing ACGME approved Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship (4 fellows per year) as well as an SSO approved breast fellowship (1 fellow per year). Roswell Park has experienced tremendous clinical growth over the last few years, including having multiple affiliated institutions across all of New York state.

Responsibilities of the Chair would include administrative oversight over departmental faculty, fellows, physician extenders, and researchers; implementation of departmental growth strategies to support the institution’s clinical expansion mission; working closely with Roswell Park leadership on institutional operations and strategic development; and collaboration with the institute’s basic scientists and other departments to facilitate inter-departmental cancer research and novel clinical trial development. There would also be an opportunity for ongoing research if the candidate already has a basic science/translational/outcomes background.

Minimum requirements are an actively practicing clinical surgical oncologist for several years, board certification, and eligibility to obtain a medical license in the state of New York. The preferred candidate will already have prior experience in a leadership position.

Salary and total package are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Roswell Park also offers excellent fringe benefits (PTO, insurance, retirement, travel support).
