The Program Co-Leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program is responsible for program development. You will work closely with the co-leader of the program to advance the quality of the research of program members, increase the program’s peer-reviewed research funding, increase its inter- and intra- programmatic as well as multi-institutional interactions and collaborations, and increase the number of high impact publications of program members. You will foster research on cancer problems relevant to the catchment area and engage program members to conduct research in this area. You will be responsible for assessing the needs of program members and bring these to the attention of leadership. You will play a significant role in the development of the careers of junior faculty in their program.
In this role, you will:
• Serve as the Program Co-Leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program and work closely with the Co-Leader of this program.
• Lead strategic planning and implementation efforts in the research program.
• Lead programmatic activities such as program meetings, conferences, symposia, retreats, focus groups, working groups and task forces.
• Facilitate intra- and inter-programmatic interactions and multi-institutional collaborations, especially with members from NCI designated centers.
• Facilitate trans-disciplinary and translational research.
• Foster member engagement through interactive communications including through newsletters, town halls and surveys.
• Meet with each program member individually at least annually.
• Promote Cedars-Sinai Cancer infrastructure to facilitate scientific achievements.
• Perform quarterly review of research program metrics such as membership, funding base, publications, shared resource usage and clinical trial activities.
• Update the Executive Committee on programmatic activities and needs.
• Develop the annual program report according to NCI CCSG guidelines and present program activities to the External Advisory Board (EAB). Prepare the research program application for NCI designation.
• Implement EAB recommendations to enhance program quality.
• Collaborate with other cancer research investigators in the development of multi-investigator teams and/or multidisciplinary projects.
• Encourage members to perform research on cancer problems relevant to the catchment area.
• Collaborate with cancer disparity investigators and with community outreach and engagement team in the development of research projects that address cancer burden and disparities in the catchment area.
• Support the engagement of the population within the catchment area in research conducted by program members.
• Define impact of program’s research in the cancer prevention and control field and to the patient population in the catchment area.
• Advocate for research program member needs through active participation in institutional committees for research planning, cores, systems, promotions, and other committees that would advance cancer research.
• Participate and present at research program or center wide meetings or retreats, symposia, seminars, EAB visits, site visits and other academic events of Cedars-Sinai Cancer.
• Participate in community outreach and engagement, educational and training, philanthropic activities and initiatives as appropriate.
• Doctoral degree or equivalent in field of research from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in academic research and teaching.
• Has a track record of excellence in teaching and grantsmanship; has a nationally recognized record of innovative methods, research and teaching in specialty area
• A published author of peer-reviewed articles; National or international prominence in field of research, with proven abilities as Principal Investigator and mentor.
• Demonstrated ability to generate and sustain cancer relevant extramural peer-reviewed funding.
