Program Coordinator, Training & Education
UC Irvine Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center

The NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose mission is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research, education, and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC conducts interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research into the causes, prevention, therapy, and survival of cancer, trains the next generation of cancer investigators and care providers, serves as a community and regional resource for state-of-the-art information and expertise on cancer, and delivers the highest-quality multidisciplinary care to cancer patients and their families within our catchment area. To facilitate this, the CFCCC provides research resources to its ~280 cross-institutional members engaged in this research.

The Program Coordinator (PC) for Training & Education is directly responsible for managing the programs for cancer research training and education, a required component for designated comprehensive cancer centers.

Teaming with the Associate Director for Cancer Research Training and Education, the PC will develop, implement, and support new and existing programs for education, mentorship, and continuing career development as it relates to cancer across the spectrum of learners from high school students through mid-level faculty members.

The PC will support existing and future program development, including managing curriculum development, speaker selection and scheduling, advertising, registration, meeting management, and program evaluation. The PC organizes educational seminars, workshops, and related activities for cancer center members and the general community. They routinely connect trainees and faculty to funding opportunities and assist with grant submissions and post-award monitoring activities, including robust tracking of trainees and return on investment.

The PC, under the direction of the AD and Director for Administrative Programs, will collect, track, and report on education metrics and other newly formed initiatives. This may include finding creative ways to collect data currently not being collected and will necessitate working with other program managers.

The PC focuses on methods by which to coordinate Cancer Center activities with other institutional efforts including the NIH Bootcamp, Resubmission, and Clinical & Translational Scholars Programs. The PC provides input toward development of new initiatives and plans initiatives to align with the Cancer Center strategic plan and research strategy outlined in the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).

This position is critical to the overall strategic mission of the CFCCC, and the PC will report directly to the Director for Administrative Programs. Day-to-day deliverables require an in-depth evaluation of variable factors including policies/requirements of funding agencies and UC institutional policies. The incumbent determines methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results and engages in projects of broad and diverse scope with considerable impact to the Cancer Center and overall institution.
