The Manager for Data Analytics (MDA) applies advanced business process and analysis concepts and organizational objectives to resolve highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Selects methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results. This unit is defined by innovation, analytical excellence and a service culture with a mission of using high quality data to evolve the Cancer Center’s ability to provide best-in-class customer support by enabling data driven solutions within the various Units. Maintaining situational awareness will be key to providing insights that will proactively improve data quality, reliability, and maintainability.
The MDA applies advanced technical data management from multiple databases to collect high quality data to inform impactful and strategic decision. S/he determines methods, techniques and evaluates criteria to obtain results and engages in projects of broad and diverse scope with considerable impact to the Cancer Center and overall institution. The MDA is directly responsible for the management of multiple database systems (e.g. EVAL, OnCore, etc.) cataloguing and managing data required of a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center as awarded via the P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) mechanism. The designation has vital reputational and financial impact for UCI and UCI Health. Adherence to the guidelines of the CCSG data requirements is mandatory and involves ongoing monitoring of full organizational data for structure, direction, and ongoing leadership strategy. All decisions at the Center are taken within the context of the CCSG requirements which serve as guidelines for best practice both regionally and nationally. S/he reports to the Associate Director for Administration & Finance. The MDA is responsible for a broad spectrum of complex analytical duties supporting many critical high-profile projects often requiring adherence to tight deadlines. As the subject matter expert on all data systems supporting the matrixed and complex Cancer Center, as required by the NCI, the incumbent is responsible for understanding all requirements, and establishing and maintaining the Cancer Center’s informatic systems. In all of these areas, the MDA exercises independent authority to carry out required responsibilities.
