Department Description 

The Office of Clinical Research (OCR) Specimen Processing Lab is a resource of the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. The overall objective of the OCR is to coordinate and facilitate the compliant collection and disbursement of cancer clinical research specimens for Cancer Center Investigators. The OCR manages over 200 active oncology clinical trials. The Specimen Processing Lab has a collaborative relationship with the Molecular Pharmacology Shared Resource where translational assays are performed for Investigator-Initiated clinical trial specimens.

This position requires advanced knowledge of laboratory processing of human biological samples as well as the ability to abstract and plan collections from a clinical trial protocol. Leadership and processing coverage during late afternoon/early evening and weekends will be required based on trial specimen schedules. The position requires communication with a vast array of stakeholders including Principal Investigators, Industry Sponsor Research Advisors, National Study Chairs and department clinical research coordinators (CRCs). The incumbent will mentor and train assistant clinical research coordinators in lab collection processing in addition to oversight of sample shipment to outside institutions, and internal laboratories on behalf of UC Davis faculty for all trials under the auspices of the OCR.  The incumbent will generate reports and perform quality assurance of data within Freezerworks for accuracy and completeness. The position reports to the Assistant Director of the OCR.

Required Qualifications 

Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position. 

Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related field.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of working in a laboratory environment, including safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment
Advanced knowledge of basic translational and clinical research methodologies, tools, requirements and general aims.
Knowledge of certification requirements for blood-borne pathogens and shipping of hazardous materials 
Working knowledge of commonly used management databases, for example, EMR, iMedidata Rave, InForm, and Oracle.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.
Mathematical skills to perform calculations involving basic accounting, drug concentration and cell count calculations.
Knowledge and understanding of disease processes as applied to human clinical research.
Abstracting skills to locate relevant clinical information from medical records and other sources.
Organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain protocol and specimen requirements in a fast-paced environment
Writing skills to compose reports and correspondence while utilizing correct grammar, spelling and punctuation as well as clearly documenting research data onto forms.
Leadership skills encompassing both training and ongoing mentoring of Lab Assistant CRCs
Demonstrate oral communication and interpersonal skills to effectively correspond with the general public, co-workers, physicians, patients, caregivers, clinic staff, and other health care professionals.
Analytical skills to evaluate information, practices, and procedures, formulate logical and objective conclusions and make recommendations for effective solutions.

Preferred Qualifications 

Masters preferred in Biological Sciences or related field 
IATA HAZMAT Shipping Certification
CITI Research, Ethics and Compliance Training Certificatio
Certification by the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA) or the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) is required within three months of meeting the minimum qualifications for certification.

Special Requirements
