Under the general direction of the Research Administration Manager, Research Administration and Faculty Affairs (RAFA), the Conflict of Interest (COI) Specialist has primary responsibility for the day-to-day management, and support of all aspects of the Fred Hutch COI Compliance program and associated activities. The COI Specialist supports the Fred Hutch community to create and maintain a robust infrastructure to ensure compliance with applicable policies and regulations related to conflict of interest in research.  As a member of the RAFA core team, the COI Specialist serves as a primary COI subject matter expert and advisor to the Fred Hutch community, collaborating with key Hutch stakeholders to cultivate a positive institutional culture of compliance. The COI Specialist ensures that a high level of service to and partnership with the Fred Hutch research community is achieved and consistently maintained.

Provide support to coordinate operational aspects of the COI Compliance Program activities related to annual and ongoing COI disclosure and reporting processes for Fred Hutch Faculty and Scientific Staff. 

On behalf of Fred Hutch, and within delegated authority, perform COI compliance reviews in collaboration with scientific divisions. Identify relevant documentation and information necessary to complete COI reviews, and coordinate with Fred Hutch stakeholders to collect appropriate information.  
Serve as an resource for faculty and division research administrators regarding the interpretation and application of Fred Hutch COI policies and procedures, and external laws, regulations and policies related to COI issues.
Under the direction of the Research Administration Manager and RAFA leadership, support the implementation of new and changing federal regulations relating to the Hutch COI policies, processes, and systems; provide recommendations to operationalize and implement policy and procedure changes, as necessary, in coordination with RAFA and Hutch leadership and research community partners to ensure compliance and minimize audit risk for the Hutch.
Develop and implement new or revised COI procedures and guidelines as directed by the Vice President RAFA.
Participate in the delivery of Hutch-wide COI Compliance training and the development of resources and tools to facilitate and sustain a proactive compliance environment.   
Manage the online COI reporting system and coordinate with RAFA leadership, IT, Division administrators and others key stakeholders regarding system implementation, maintenance, updates and reporting; track, review and monitor open issues through to resolution.
Inform RAFA personnel and leadership of critical and/or sensitive issues related to COI administration.
Support the Research Administration Manager and Vice President, RAFA with the performance of other duties, as requested, including the coordination of additional policies & procedures related to research integrity and faculty affairs.  Special projects as assigned.

Ability to demonstrate the following:

Bachelor's Degree preferred
1 year of related experience in an academic or industry research environment; additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
General working knowledge of external regulations, laws and sponsor policies related to areas of research administration including federal, non-profit and industry sponsored projects.
Experience researching, interpreting, or implementing applicable regulations, policies, and guidelines related to research compliance, preferably in the areas of financial conflicts of interests, responsible conduct of research, and human subjects research.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive, deadline-driven environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to balance tact, diplomacy and assertiveness. Ability to handle highly confidential matters in a discreet manner.
Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to write and format professional correspondence and reports.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Strong proficiency in computer skills such as word processing, use and development of spreadsheets, database and electronic systems and solutions.
