The Chief, Division of Hematology/Oncology is the academic, clinical, and administrative leader of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at SUNY Upstate. With the support and dedication of the new Chair of Medicine (Cynthia Taub, MD, MBA), the Division Chief has the opportunity to build a nationally recognized program while leading and directing programmatic, clinical, research and educational development within the Division, and will liaise with other divisions, departments, and institutional leadership in the SUNY Upstate Cancer Center.
The Ideal Candidate
The candidate should be an outstanding physician with a history of successful leadership experience, knowledge of the market forces impacting cancer healthcare delivery, and evidence of mentoring/training and scholarship.
The Organization
The Division of Hematology/Oncology at SUNY Upstate is on an upward trajectory and home to a highly talented group of 16 faculty members, additional advanced practice providers, clinical research associates, and operates a 3-year hematology/oncology fellowship program (12 fellows). The Upstate Cancer Center is the leading cancer program in Central New York providing world-class multidisciplinary care for the nearly 1.8 million residents of Central New York integrated with robust research and educational programs. The Cancer Center operates out of a dedicated 150,000 square foot state-of-art facility adjacent to the main academic campus that supports comprehensive multidisciplinary cancer programs. Regional cancer care is provided in 8 satellite offices with a new multidisciplinary center opening in 2023. Clinical research is supported by dedicated Cancer Center administrative personnel and integrated with a strong core of basic and translational investigators. The Cancer Center is in the process of growing operations to support the needs of the community and its future pursuit of NCI designation. SUNY Upstate Medical University is one of three academic medical centers of the State University of New York, with an annual budget of more than $1.8B. Approximately 11,000 people work at SUNY Upstate, which is the largest employer in Central New York.
