Annual Capitol Hill Day Set for May

AACI will co-host a Capitol Hill Day on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Friends of Cancer Research (FOCR). Titled “Innovation and Hope through Cancer Research- Progress in the New Decade”, the event will provide an opportunity for cancer centers to showcase their work and to illustrate how the federal investment in research sustains progress in the fight against cancer.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has benefited biomedical research efforts in the United States by injecting $10.4 billion into the NIH budget. However, because this funding expires in 2011, efforts to maintain research funding will be particularly important as Congress considers federal budget and appropriations for FY 2011.

The events on May 5 will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a Breakfast Briefing for participants at the Reserve Officers Association (One Constitution Avenue, NE Washington D.C. 20002) followed by individual meetings with representatives and senators. Lunch will be provided along with storage space for belongings during the legislator meetings. On the evening of May 4, AACI, AACR, ASCO, and FOCR will co-host a reception for all Hill Day attendees at 6 p.m. More reception details are forthcoming.
