The University of Illinois Cancer Center is embarking on a period of reorganization to become one of the nationís leading innovative community-based cancer centers. The UI Cancer Center is seeking a Director of Communications to direct the organizationís internal and external communications and marketing activities.

This position will serve as the primary communications liaison, working with various partners across the University of Illinois System to expand the awareness of the center. Objectives will focus on elevating UI Cancer Centerís local, regional and national reputation through expanded media coverage, targeted marketing outreach and enhanced digital communications. The Director will use his or her writing, editing and communications skills and extensive media relations experience to elevate the UI Cancer Centerís position as an authority in a bench to community model through local and global partnerships. This includes all aspects of communications to increase the publicís knowledge about the importance of cancer research in the biology, early detection and screening, prevention, treatment and survivorship options. Minimum of a Bachelorís degree required; Masterís degree preferred. A minimum of 8 years of related experience required preferably in an Oncology unit or Cancer Center.
An understanding of clinical issues associated with oncology and clinical trials in a clinical research setting desired.
Demonstrated experience managing multi-media platforms including content writing, web development and social media is required. Must know how to leverage social media to promote content and have extensive experience with business-related posting on Facebook and Twitter.
Overnight travel (10-15%) to scientific conferences and other meetings within and outside the U.S required.
