The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center (SCC) at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director.
The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center (SCC) is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education and community outreach. It is the only cancer center in Missouri and within a 240-mile radius of St. Louis to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute and membership in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks the cancer center among the best in the nation.
Siteman offers the expertise of more than 450 Washington University research scientists and physicians who provide care for more than 10,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year. A full range of advanced diagnostic and treatment services are available for patients with all types of cancer. Scientists and physicians affiliated with Siteman hold almost $160 million in annual cancer research and related training grants including more than 500 therapeutic clinical studies. In addition to treatment and research programs, Siteman pursues an active outreach program of cancer screening and education.
Reporting to the Director of Siteman Cancer Center and working in close collaboration with the Vice President of Oncology, the Executive Director administers a joint research and clinical oncology program with Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital and provides strategic, administrative, operational and fiscal leadership of research facilities, information systems, and human resources including supervision of and administrative support for all SCC research programs and research cores. This position also works closely with the Executive Director of SCC Marketing/Communications/Physician Outreach and the Executive Director of SCC Development to form a senior management team that reports to the Director of the Siteman Cancer Center.
The Executive Director serves as a member of the SCC Senior Leadership team and oversees day-to-day operations of research programs; core laboratories, translational research working groups; research development processes; research administration; clinical trials; and various committees. The Executive Director oversees and administers an operating budget of approximately $18 million in conjunction with the Vice President of Oncology. The Executive Director cultivates senior level cooperative relationships with the National Cancer Institute and represents the SCC on all related administrative matters.
The successful candidate, at minimum, will have the equivalent of Bachelorís degree in health management or business related field with more than seven years of experience in business related managerial position. Preferred qualifications include a Masterís degree in related field with a minimum of 5 years direct experience in research administration, financial management, grant development, and administrative supervision, especially in oncology-related field. Interpersonal and political skills essential for succeeding in a complex matrix environment with additional external institutional relationships are essential.
